South Heart School District #9 South Heart School Board Regular Meeting, January 12, 2022 The regular meeting of the South Heart School Board was called to order by Pres. Ewoniuk in Classroom 401 at 7:00 PM. All members present, as well as Supt. Dean, Prin. Jung, Prin. Geis, AD Ronnie Stewart and Business Mgr, Kristine Mehrer. Guests: Kristen Kuntz, Jana Schweigert, Keisha Sparks, Bryce Wigert, Jerica Smith. Jacobson moved, second by Meduna to approve agenda with additions. All in favor; motion carried. Prin. Jung recognized the staff and students for a great first semester. Meduna moved, second by Kudrna to approve minutes from December 8, 2021. All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to approve January 2022 bills and payroll and December 2021 financial reports. All in favor; motion carried. Supt. Dean reviewed personnel report: Hires: Ashley Heinen, JH Acalympics Advisor ($326.25), HS Acalympics Advisor ($326.25); Resignation: Alyssa Klein as elementary paraprofessional. Job openings: Grade 3 teacher, 7-12 Ag Education teacher/FFA advisor, 7-12 Business Education teacher, elementary paraprofessional. Supt. Dean reviewed K-12 enrollment report = 371. Mr. Stewart reviewed AD report: Choir students fundraising for summer tour to Nashville. Prin. Geis reported: student engagement survey to be completed between January 17 and February 18, elementary students are completing a writing project on the seven continents of the world. Prin. Jung reported: Semester 1 grades finalized, Semester 2 student schedules are set, NAEP testing for Grade 8 on February 10. Supt. Dean reported: school audit report will be coming soon; STARS Rewrite expense $33,968.00 was reflected as a deduction from foundation aid; reviewed possible projects; presented the new NDCC guidelines / timelines for teacher negotiations. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to select Mason Eberts to fill the school board vacancy through conclusion of 21-22 school year. This position will be open again at the June election, per school board policy. Discussion took place. All in favor; motion carried. Kudrna moved, second by Meduna to approve Jason Mann’s retirement effective at the end of the 21-22 school year and his early retirement application. All in favor; motion carried. Kudrna moved, second by Jacobson to dissolve open enrollment for 2 children of Shawna Knipp (back to Dickinson). All in favor; motion carried. Meduna moved, second by Jacobson to approve open enrollment for 2 children of Gregory Pillar in from Dickinson (already attending South Heart). All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to approve quote from School Products & Equipment for installation of 2 new baskets on south wall of high school gym ($17,700.00). All in favor; motion carried. Meduna moved, second by Jacobson to approve request to destroy business records for fiscal year 15-16 in accordance with NDCC 15.1-07-25.2 All in favor; motion carried. Meduna moved to approve Policy HBAA with one reading as written to expedite the implementation of the policy– in accordance with policy BDA. Second by Kudrna. All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to approve 1st reading of amended policies: FFG, FFK, FFK-BR, FGA, FGA-BR1, GDB, and KACA. All in favor, motion carried. Board reviewed administrative regulations and exhibits: FFK-AR1, FFK-AR2, FGA-E1, FGA-E2, FGA-E3. Meduna reported on RESP and RACTC/SWCTE. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to approve 1st reading of amended school board policy BBA. All in favor; motion carried. Kudrna moved to adopt school board policies FAAA and FAAD with one reading as written to expedite the implementation of these policies – in accordance with policy BDA. Second by Jacobson. All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to re-open open enrollment immediately, in accordance with policy. All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to accept Cheryl Dockter’s retirement effective at the end of the 21-22 school year and her early retirement application. All in favor; motion carried. Jacobson moved, second by Kudrna to approve hiring Calista Heley as 7-12 VoAg Education Teacher ($237.71/day) and FFA Advisor ($1,740.00) for second semester. All in favor; motion carried. Supt. Dean reviewed upcoming events. Kudrna moved, second by Jacobson to adjourn at 8:16 PM.
