The regular meeting of the South Heart School Board was called to order in elementary gymnasium by President Kudrna at 7:00 PM. Ewoniuk absent, Jacobson late (7:21 PM), all other members present. Others present: Supt. Dean, Principal Geis, Principal Jung, Activities Director, Ronnie Stewart, Business Manager, Kristine Mehrer. Guests: Paula Lengowski, Kristen Kuntz, Bryce Wigert, Jerica Smith, Jana Schweigert.
Meduna moved, second by Kubas to approve agenda with addition. All in favor; motion carried.
Prin. Jung and Prin. Geis recognized staff and students for their efforts with classroom and distance ed. They also recognized staff for their wonderful input on ideas for second semester. Mrs. Geis recognized the high school staff for creating a schoolwide activity to promote positivity.
Kubas moved, second by Meduna to approve minutes of November 11 and 18, 2020. All in favor; motion carried.
Meduna moved, second by Kubas to approve December 2020 bills and payroll and November 2020 financial reports. All in favor; motion carried.
President Kudrna explained the Rocky Mountain Superintendent Evaluation System through NDSBA, which will be used for superintendent evaluations going forward.
Kubas moved, second by Meduna to approve 2020-21 Billings County Tuition Agreement ($49,080.08). All in favor; motion carried.
Meduna moved, second by Kubas to approve open enrollment application (20-21) for Cooper Kolschefski - already enrolled but moving out of district - in from Dickinson. All in favor; motion carried.
Meduna moved, second by Kubas to approve resignation and early retirement application for Paula Lengowski effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year. All in favor; motion carried.
Jacobson joined meeting (7:21 PM).
Kubas moved, second by Jacobson to approve first reading of amended school board policies: BCAA, BFB, BGA, CAAA, CABB, DBAC, KACA, KACB. All in favor; motion carried.
Meduna moved, second by Kubas to approve second reading of amended school board policies: AAC, ABEA, ABEB, ABEC, DEBD, FFE. All in favor; motion carried.
Reviewed policy exhibits: DJK-E1, DJK-E2, DJK-E3, and DJL-E.
Supt Dean reviewed Personnel Report: HR Coop Hires: Ronnie Stewart, Head Girls Basketball Coach ($4,485.00), Kelsey Boedeker, Asst. Girls Basketball Coach ($3,660.00), Erik Klein, Head Boys Basketball Coach (Volunteer), Jared Walter, Asst Boys Basketball Coach (Volunteer), Matt Larson, Asst Boys Basketball Coach ($2,860.00).
Supt. Dean reviewed enrollment report: current K-12 enrollment is 359 and PK enrollment is 18.
Mr. Stewart reviewed sports schedules, starting dates, season duration changes and protocols per NDHSAA guidelines.
Prin. Geis reported: Music concerts will be recorded and made available for families to view; Istation testing (K-3) and ACT Aspire testing (4-6) for December is wrapping up; CPASS and South Heart Lions Club are providing holiday treats for students.
Prin. Jung reported: semester finals scheduled for December 16, 17, 21, & 22; adjustments are being made to the class schedule - reviewing Semester 2 schedules for all students; winter concert will be recorded and made available on the website for families to view.
Supt. Dean reported: TMI will install storage cabinets in Grade 5 & 6 and Elementary Music and Superintendent's Office over Holiday Break; Elementary K-6 is transitioning to Schoolwide Title I for 21-22 school year; reviewed newest CDC guidelines for quarantine; some other schools are piloting Binax testing for staff for COVID19;
reviewed Governor's press conference updates = mandatory masks through January 18, capacity limits extended through January 8; COVID grants and FFCRA expire December 30; USDA free meals extended through the end of the school year; sports and activities may begin competition December 14.
Curriculum / Policy / COVID committee report: Review of proposed 2nd semester Health and Safety Smart Restart Plan and Distance Education Plan. Jacobson moved, second by Meduna to approve the plans as presented. All in favor; motion carried.
Kubas moved, second by Jacobson to approve quote from High Points Network for switches $35,515.00 to be paid with COVID - Resiliency and Education Corps-Cares Act Grants. All in favor; motion carried.
Supt. Dean reviewed upcoming events.
Jacobson moved, second by Kubas to adjourn at 8:31 PM. All in favor; motion carried.
