Regular Meeting, October 7, 2020
The regular meeting of the South Heart School Board was called to order in elementary gymnasium by President Kudrna at 7:00 PM. All members present. Others present: Supt. Dean, Principal Geis (via phone), Principal Jung, Activities Director, Ronnie Stewart, Business Manager, Kristine Mehrer.
Meduna moved, second by Ewoniuk to approve agenda. All in favor; motion carried.
Jacobson moved, second by Kubas to approve minutes of September 9 and 23, 2020. All in favor; motion carried.
Ewoniuk moved, second by Jacobson to approve October 2020 bills and payroll and September 2020 financial reports. All in favor; motion carried.
Prin. Jung recognized staff for their efforts with classroom and distance ed. Mr. Stewart recognized the students for working hard, especially during quarantines.
Mr. Stewart reported: possible alternative site are being sought for music festivals, FFA held their annual blood drive, elementary girls basketball, junior high football and volleyball have ended, junior high girls basketball begins October 26, elementary boys basketball has 30 participants so far, splitting the team and working on fundamentals with volunteer coaches. Mr. Stewart left the meeting.
Prin. Geis reported: Lions Club doing vision screenings Oct. 15 for Preschool through Grade 3, Oct. 16 is the end of the first quarter, report cards to go out the following week.
Prin. Jung reported: fall standardized testing results significantly lower than last years.
Supt. Dean reported: coordinating tree project with Kevin Pavlish and soil conservation district to plant Colorado Spruce trees around school property in memory of Marvin Haugland.
On behalf of the South Heart Park Board, Prin. Jung thanked the school for use of the football field for elementary football.
Supt Dean reviewed enrollment report: current K-12 enrollment is 367 and PK enrollment is 18.
Supt Dean reviewed Personnel Report: HR Coop Hires: Dustin Honeyman, Elementary Boys Basketball ($1,600.00), Janelle Bargmann, Elementary Boys Basketball ($1,240.00).
Jacobson moved, second by Ewoniuk to approve final 2020-21 budget and tax levy. All in favor; motion carried.
Kubas moved, second by Jacobson to approve pay to contracted drivers 35% of their daily rate for Distance Education Fridays for first semester. All in favor; motion carried.
Ewoniuk moved, second by Kubas to approve Mask Requirement Draft #2 for students and staff per new ND Department of Health Mask and Quarantine guidelines. All in favor; motion carried.
Meduna reported on RESP and RACTC.
Jacobson moved, second by Kubas to approve 2nd reading of policies AAC, AAC-BR1, AAC-BR2, ABBA. All in favor; motion carried.
Supt. Dean reviewed upcoming events.
Meduna moved, second by Jacobson to adjourn at 8:51 PM. All in favor; motion carried.
