The beautiful sounds of music is as remarkable as the instruments and people who create them. Favorite songs from the past get reused and sampled by new artist to pay homage for the influence it had on their lives. A concert of a variety in music from different eras with a modern and yet unique twist is coming to Dickinson.
At the Dorothy Stickney Auditorium at Dickinson State University on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m., the first concert of the season will bring delight to the audience’s earbuds with the intimate yet dynamic sounds of Harp and Chords, performing contemporary and popular music from various decades.
Harps and Chords is a striking new duo from New York City that consist of a harpist, Jacqulin Kerrod, and a vocalist, Daisy Press. Both Kerrod and Press have a range in backgrounds and performance experience having played on premiere stages in New York such as Brooklyn’s House of Yes, Radio City Music Hall, Joe’s Pub, NYC Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Manhattan jazz club Birdland, to name a few. Obvious to say, but this stand-alone duo of harp and voice have found a niche that has caught the attention of a wide amount of jazz and pop fans.
They will be on stage to share their talents and style to the city of Dickinson. Numerous acclaimed musical artists and bands is contained with the duo’s repertoire. From “Maybe I’m Amazed,” written and performed by Paul McCartney, to “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” by Elvis Presley. Even more classics such as, “Make You Feel My Love,” by Bob Dylan, “Come Away With Me,” by Norah Jones and “Summertime,” by George Gershwin.
Attending this concert will offer some familiarity of past hits and musical gems but with a contemporary style of performance that engages its audience mind.
This concert is being put on by the Dickinson Area Concert Association, who presented four to five concerts for the community each year. This offers the rural community of the Dickinson area a new sense of music culture within the jazz community. As stated on their website, they are committed to bringing a variety of excellent musical performance to the Dickinson area at a reasonable cost.
