For about a decade, the first Friday of December has been connected with the Badlands Board of Realtors Inc. spreading across the city of Dickinson to raise money for donations and handing out candy canes to community shoppers.
“I've been with it since the beginning and was one of the founding committee members that brought this program not just to North Dakota but eleven other states,” Lorrie Nantt with Remax Integrity Realty said. “I have always been taught to give back in anyway you can and I may be donating my time but I enjoy seeing people as they come into the store and wishing them a Merry Christmas whether or not they give a lot or if they give it all.”
In their hands are the infamous Salvation Army holiday bells, but what truly rings is the passion within their hearts.
“This is my first time doing it and it has been a lot of fun,” Cassia Austreim of Western Agency Insurance said. “It awesome seeing people donate towards support for the community.”
This year the group of realtors are being accompanied by business partners as they collect donations from various spots around town including, Runnings Farm and Fleet, West Family Fare, Cashwise Foods, and Newby’s Ace Hardware.
“Anybody ringing the bell in Dickinson area today is either a business partner or a Badlands Board affiliate realtor,” said Jessica Tuchscherer of Dakota Community Bank.
Each volunteer carried a smile across their face and had an honest, friendly disposition that showed that their time was donated proudly.
“Salvation Army is a great and respectable cause,” Ninetta Wandler with Remax Integrity Realty said. “This is my third shift but I just love meeting all the people and handing out candy canes to all the kids passing by.”
