BOWESMONT, N.D. -- A 12-car accident resulted after a car was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 29 near Bowesmont in northeast North Dakota on Monday afternoon.
Pembina County deputies had arrived at the scene -- one deputy was parked along the shoulder of the interstate when another tractor-trailer struck the parked patrol vehicle. I-29 became blocked from the second crash.
Three additional trucks became involved in the crash, striking already disabled vehicles.
Preliminary counts show 12 vehicles total were involved in the crashes, including two Pembina County patrol vehicles, one passenger car, and five semis.
I-29 was closed for an hour and a half. It has since been reopened.
