Missing Dickinson children found shortly after disappearance was made public

A Dickinson couple had quite a scare Wednesday morning when they woke up to find their 7- and 8-year-old children missing.

Stark County residents received a “Civil Emergency Message” on their cellphones at about 11:30 a.m. The focus of the message were 8-year-old Rayne Ridl and 7-year-old J.J. Ridl, daughter and son of Kristin and Joe Ridl. The two were found missing from their beds when their mother woke up. The father had already left for work.

The children had decided to take the dog for a walk because the weather was so nice that morning, Kristin Ridl wrote in an email. The children were found uninjured and in no danger, Dickinson Police Capt. Joe Cianni wrote.

Kristin Ridl thanked everyone who helped locate her children.

“I urge all parents to discuss with their kids the dangers of doing things without permission,” she wrote. “We have taught our children to not even open the doors without permission, so

them leaving without asking was a shock to us.”
