RICHARDTON -- The city of Richardton has given final and unanimous approval to the rezoning of 300 acres west of town for a future Halliburton frac sand plant and transloading facility.

The company is ready to start construction on the project and hopes to be running trucks by June.

The planning commission recommended approval of the project Aug. 28, after tabling it the previous meeting due to landowner concerns. Halliburton, city staff and landowners worked out solutions between those meetings and city commissioners made only minor changes to the conditions of approval at the meeting Monday night, zoning administrator Cheryl Ryan said.

City Commission President Frank Kirschenheiter said the planning commission, staff and Halliburton “did a very good job in terms of cooperating together and planning solutions,” Ryan said.
