Police release name of homicide victim found at north Fargo apartment
FARGO — Authorities have identified a homicide victim whose body was discovered Friday morning, March 2, in a north Fargo apartment.
The victim was Jarryd George Heis, 32, of Fargo, city police said in a news release Saturday, March 3.
Chief David Todd said Friday that a suspect, 29-year-old Daniel Benjamin Habiger of Fargo, was arrested in connection with the homicide.
About 6:20 a.m. Friday, Habiger called an emergency dispatcher and said he was involved in a "physical altercation" that resulted in a man's death, Todd said.
The chief declined to say whether a weapon was involved. An autopsy is planned to determine the victim's exact cause of death.
Officers soon arrested Habiger at the north-side convenience store where he made the call, Todd said, and found the victim's body in Habiger's apartment at 701 10th St. N.
Police were looking for a homeless man, 45-year-old David Patrick Williams, who may have been in the apartment when the homicide occurred and may have witnessed the altercation. Authorities announced Friday afternoon that Williams had been found.
Habiger has not yet been charged in the case. He was being held Saturday at the Cass County Jail. It's likely he will appear in court on Monday, March 5, according to Cass County State's Attorney Birch Burdick.
