Liz Fadness, a 15-year-old female from Dickinson, North Dakota, was involved in a fatal crash on 34th Street Southwest between 113th and 115th Avenue SW in northwest Dickinson on Monday, Sept. 14, at 9 p.m.
First responders from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Dickinson Area Ambulance and Dickinson Rural Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly closed the roadway to traffic.
According to a release from the Highway Patrol, the 2004 Jeep Liberty being operated by Fadness was traveling eastbound on 34th Street SW in Dickinson when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the north ditch where it overturned. The vehicle came to rest in a field to the north of the roadway where the teenager was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Stark County Sheriff Corey Lee said that his department's thoughts were with the family of the deceased.
"It's a sad situation whenever there is a fatality and it's even more so when there is a minor involved," Lee said. "Our condolences to the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time."
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and this story will be updated when more information is released.
