WATFORD CITY, N.D. — Authorities have identified a 29-year-old Los Alamos, N.M., man who was killed after he was reportedly driving recklessly before Wednesday's head-on crash about nine miles east of Watford City.

Steven Candelaria, 29, was identified Friday after the July 10 crash on North Dakota Highway 23 in McKenzie County, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Candelaria was driving a 2014 Ford Raptor eastbound 10:56 p.m. when he entered the westbound lane at a high rate of speed. The patrol said Candelaria was called in for reckless driving.

Candelaria reached the top of the hill near mile-marker 13 in the wrong lane when a westbound International semi, driven by John Farris, 48, from Hooper, Utah, collided with the Ford truck.

Ferris was injured in the crash.
