Three Minot airmen escape from river after crash; DUI issued
MINOT, N.D. — Three airmen from the Minot Air Force Base escaped from a vehicle after it landed in the Souris River in northwest Minot on Wednesday night, Aug. 29, about 9:45 p.m.
Two 24-year-old passengers were injured, however, and taken to Trinity Hospital and the driver, Christopher Lithgow, also 24, was arrested on a charge of DUI.
Witnesses told police that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control.
The vehicle hit a light pole and went down an embankment, ending up in the river.
The three men were all able to get out of the vehicle and river and get to shore.
The two passengers had non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The car will be removed as soon as possible, police said.
