A Fort Totten man is in critical condition after being hit by a car 3 miles south of Devils Lake Tuesday night, a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Clarence A. Brown, 29, was walking southbound on the right shoulder of Highway 20 heading to Fort Totten from Devils Lake, the release said. Dennis D. Possen, 61, of Devils Lake, was driving a green 1971 Mercury Monterey sedan southbound on Highway 20, Highway Patrol said. He pulled onto the right shoulder around 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 2nd to yield to an ambulance but did not see Brown because he was wearing dark clothing, the report said.

Brown was hit and severely injured. The release said he was brought to the Devils Lake hospital and later transported by helicopter to Altru.

Possen has not been charged and the investigation is ongoing, the release said.
