Man dies in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 west of Bismarck
NEW SALEM, N.D. -- A 79-year-old New Salem man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 on Thursday, Oct. 11, about 20 miles west of Bismarck, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.
The man, driving a 1997 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling eastbound when he applied his brakes and started to slow shortly before 6:30 a.m. for an unknown reason, the patrol said.
A trailing vehicle, a 2014 Ford Escape driven by a 37-year-old Hazen man, was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the Tacoma. The Tacoma went into the south ditch where it overturned onto its roof. Road conditions were dry at the time, the patrol reported.
Both men were wearing seat belts and airbags deployed in both vehicles, the patrol said.
New Salem is about 32 miles west of Bismarck.
