Highway Patrol names man who died in rollover near Bismarck

Man in the hospital with life threatening injuries after a crash southeast of Bemidji

WILTON, N.D. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Bismarck man who died early Friday morning, May 17, in a rollover crash in central North Dakota.

Mark Geiger, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash along U.S. Highway 83 about 5 ½ miles north of Wilton, or about 30 miles north of Bismarck. He was driving a 1997 Ford pickup north on the highway when the vehicle left the roadway and partially entered the median, according to a news release that said the crash happened about 2:15 a.m. Friday.

Geiger tried to turn the pickup back onto the highway but overcorrected, the release said. The vehicle rolled, and Geiger was ejected.

The Highway Patrol is investigating whether alcohol or distracted driving played a role in the crash, but Geiger was not wearing his seat belt, Sgt. Ryan Duletski said.
