NEW TOWN, N.D. — Authorities have identified the driver of a utility terrain vehicle killed in a crash in Mountrail County Monday, July 5.
The UTV driver killed was Garrett Hoelscher, 23, of Ross, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Highway Patrol did not release the identity of a juvenile male passenger also killed while riding in the UTV.
The crash happened about 8:50 a.m. Monday about 12 miles north of New Town, N.D.
A Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by Geran Rick, 31, of Lignite, N.D., was southbound on North Dakota Highway 1804. The UTV was traveling west on 50th Street Northwest toward Highway 1804.
The Silverado struck the passenger side of the UTV as it tried to cross the highway, the patrol said. Both vehicles rolled into the west ditch and came to rest.
The juvenile male passenger was thrown from the UTV. The UTV driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts or helmets, and they died at the scene, the patrol said.
The Silverado driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
