A hydrochloric acid spill temporarily closed the Interstate 94 westbound exit to Belfield on Wednesday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
A rubber gasket on a hatchet on top of a Baker Hughes semi was faulty, allowing the water-diluted liquid to spill on the Exit 42 ramp, Highway Patrol Lt. Jody Skogen said. He could not confirm how much was spilled but that it had been cleaned up.
Emergency staff and law enforcement responded to the incident at approximately 6:25 p.m. The exit was closed for about 45 minutes, Skogen said.
No one was injured during the incident and the unnamed driver was not cited.
