BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Argentine farmers say they will halt grain and beef sales for seven days to protest President Cristina Fernandez's plan to funnel soy export taxes into an emergency fund for the provinces.
They are also protesting what they say is the government's weak response to one of the worst droughts in a generation.
The international financial crisis has hit the country's agricultural sector hard as demand plummets for soy, beef, corn and wheat exports.
Thousands of farmers blockaded major highways Friday in a return of strikes that hurt Argentina's commodity-based economy last year.
