There's been a run on flour, sugar, butter and spices in Dickinson's grocery stores this week. Members of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary are busy baking cookies for their annual valentine cookie sale.

"They're all homemade and kid-friendly," said member Bethol Knutson.

Clara Mesling is making chocolate sandwich cookies.

"I've made them a few times and they sell good," she said.

"Brown sugar rocks are a favorite with my grandkids," said Maggie Kuntz.

About 100 members are expected to each bake six dozen cookies.

The cookies are placed in small plastic baggies for people to pick up on the cookie walk. The walk begins at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, in the St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center auditorium.

While selecting cookies, the auxiliary is serving coffee and rolls.

The requested donation is $8 per box of two dozen cookies.

For an extra $5 fee, the cookies are delivered to places of business for Valentine's Day. Delivery orders must be placed by Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 456-4785.

Proceeds from the valentine cookie sale help the auxiliary purchase items for the hospital.

The auxiliary recently refurnished the two waiting rooms with flooring and furniture. It also purchased two wheelchairs.

People who support the work of the hospital are encouraged to join the auxiliary.

"There's so many ways to volunteer," said Mesling.

"It's a fun organization," added Knutson.
