Arts on the Prairie continues its tradition of Tuesday evening band shell concerts with eight performances.

"Band shell events are free to the public and as always, bring your children and your lawn chairs to settle in for superb community fun," said director Kristi Pechtl.

The first concert features the local Dakota Breeze Band, which was started last year by Mississippi musician Cal Ullendorf.

"We'll be doing a bit of everything... classic rock, country and oldies," he said.

The group consists of Ullendorf, lead guitar; Bob Herrington, rhythm guitar and vocals; Sheila Clements, drums and vocals, and Rex Herring, base guitar and vocals.

"We're professional musicians who have played in other bands before. We pick a song and just do it. We like playing music," said Ullendorf.

Dakota Breeze has several performances planned for the summer. It is playing for the Oprey Land Days street dance on Aug. 18 at Richardton, and is riding on The Music Mart Roughrider Days parade float.

Being from the South, Ullendorf has secured thousands of beads, assorted stuffed animals and whistles to give away throughout the parade route.

"They won't miss us," he said.

The band also gives back to the community through performances for the ARC and ABLE social gatherings in Dickinson.

The band shell performance starts at 7 p.m. at the Phil Patterson Memorial Bandshell.

The band shell series includes Chuck Suchy on June 19, Neo Briggs on June 26, Cottonwood on July 10, Monica Kram and Jamsz on July 17; Dakota Nights on July 24, The Special Consensus on July 31 and the Tibor Trio on Aug. 7.
