BISMARCK -- A Belcourt man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for murdering a man at the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, according to U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon’s office.
Daniel Greatwalker Jr., 24, was charged with second degree murder and concealing evidence of his crime. He pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bismarck.
Perry Picotte, 21, was reported missing Nov. 27, 2012. His body was discovered Dec. 2, 2012.
Greatwalker stabbed the victim with a knife “multiple times over his entire body,” according to the Justice Department. He then got rid of the knife, washed his clothes and burned his shoes.
In addition to the prison sentence, Greatwalker was required to pay $6,060 in restitution and $200 to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
