BISMARCK, N.D. – A 33-year-old Bismarck man was arrested Tuesday afternoon accused of  scuffling with and then hitting a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer near Fort Yates with his vehicle and then leading law officers on a high-speed chase into Bismarck and Mandan.

The more than 60-mile pursuit started after a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer stopped William Schneider, 33, for a traffic violation on Highway 1806 north of Fort Yates. The officer discovered Schneider had a warrant out for his arrest.

After resisting arrest, a short struggle between Schneider and the officer ensued, the North Dakota State Patrol reported. Schneider then struck the officer with his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and fled the scene in his vehicle, said the Patrol.

Officers pursued Schneider as he fled north toward Mandan. He entered Mandan city limits, where police there joined the chase. After deploying spike strips, Schneider was apprehended across the river in Bismarck on Saratoga Avenue without incident.
