BNSF forecasts delays

BNSF Railway customers may see delays as the railway re-routes trains because of the blizzard Sunday night and Monday, the company said in a service advisory Monday afternoon.

BNSF Railway customers may see delays as the railway re-routes trains because of the blizzard Sunday night and Monday, the company said in a service advisory Monday afternoon.

“To quickly mitigate the potential negative effects from the storm, BNSF has taken pro-active measures to leverage our network and utilize alternative routes to reduce the total train volume expected in the immediate path of the storm,” the advisory said.

The company has re-deployed “Winter Action Plans” for pre-positioned snow removal equipment and supplement staff to be ready for the storm.

Customers may notice “nonstandard routings, locations and interchanges” because of the re-routings, and transit times several days longer than usual, the railway said.

BNSF spokesman Steven Forsberg said the storm won’t affect long-term efforts to improve service, which for months has been plagued with delays from increased traffic and other winter weather events.
