BISMARCK (AP) -- The state Board of Higher Education is considering a ban on tobacco at all North Dakota college campuses.
College presidents say it's a major health issue and it makes sense to have a uniform policy. Some state colleges have already banned the use of tobacco products, and presidents say it has been well-received.
Valley City State President Steve Shirley says current students are growing up in an environment where smoking is banned in public places. He says they should have no problem adapting to the change.
Haylee Cripe is the board's student representative. She says the board should consider penalties for violators. She says many students are ignoring rules now.
