The cause of a fire in southwest Dickinson over the weekend is still unknown.

The fire, which occurred at a duplex at 387 2nd. Ave. SW, started in the early hours of the morning on Saturday.

The Dickinson Fire Department received the call at 4:47 a.m. Saturday. They arrived on scene at 4:57 a.m. Chief Bob Sivak said in an email to the Press that 23 firefighters, one chaplain and four apparatus responded to the blaze.

The fire was under control at 6:18 a.m. and the last unit left the scene at 8:04 a.m., Sivak said.

Sivak said there was heavy damage to one unit and smoke damage throughout the building.

According to a Dickinson Police Department report, two individuals were the only ones in the duplex at the time of the fire.

In the report, DPD Sgt. Jeremy Moser stated he spoke with the renters of the residence who believed one of them may have accidentally left the stove on.

According to the report completed by the primary investigator Casey Brosten, the two men admitted they had been drinking, one more heavily than the other, the night before. One of the men said it was possible he had made food early Saturday morning, but he could not remember for certain.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is undetermined, Sivak said.
