According to a Dickinson Police Department report, two individuals were the only ones in the duplex at the time of the fire.
In the report, DPD Sgt. Jeremy Moser stated he spoke with the renters of the residence who believed one of them may have accidentally left the stove on.
According to the report completed by the primary investigator Casey Brosten, the two men admitted they had been drinking, one more heavily than the other, the night before. One of the men said it was possible he had made food early Saturday morning, but he could not remember for certain.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is undetermined, Sivak said.
