MAYVILLE -- Dickinson State was on top of its game in the first half. But Mayville State owned the half that mattered.
The Comets lit up the scoreboard with 10 second-half 3-pointers, outscoring the Blue Hawks 48-30 after halftime to take a 74-69 Dakota Athletic Conference men's basketball victory Saturday at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
"It wasn't like the wheels fell off, they just started hitting some crazy, crazy 3s," DSU coach Ty Orton said.
Marques Benjamin led the Comets with 20 points and had four 3-pointers. Tremel Gilot had 19 points and made a pair from downtown. Ethan Evanson came off the bench and had all nine of his points on 3s.
DSU led 39-24 at the break and led by as much as 20 in the first half.

"We were just rolling," Orton said.
But, when Mayville State caught fire, the Blue Hawks couldn't find the basket.
Mayville State was 10 of 17 from beyond the 3-point line in the second half. DSU was just 7 of 20 from the field.
"We did a lot of things well," Orton said. "The only thing is, they hit deep, deep 3s with hands in their face. It was the craziest thing."
Fred Scheltinga led four Blue Hawks in double figures with 15 points. Yazeed Saajid had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds while shooting 8 of 9 from the free-throw line.
Nigel Sims came off the bench and scored 13 points to go along with three steals and two assists. Nathan Lebsock was 3 of 3 from beyond the 3-point line and finished with 11 points.
"They did everything they could to win this game," Orton said.
