BISMARCK (AP) -- A fire at Bismarck's landfill sent smoke drifting over part of the city.
The fire started in the household waste dumping area about 7 a.m. today when a commercial operator unloaded something hot, and was fueled by strong winds. Officials shut down the landfill for a couple of hours while they got the blaze under control. No buildings were threatened.
Assistant Fire Chief Kermit Schaefer says the blaze could smolder for several more days.
He says the smoke should be bothersome only to people with breathing problems such as asthma.
