WALLACE, S.D. – One man was shot and two men have been charged with aggravated assault following an incident early Sunday morning, July 7, near Wallace.
According to Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell, Edward Becking, age 29, of rural Wallace was charged with aggravated assault for shooting Austin Anderson, age 22, in the leg. Anderson was also arrested on aggravated assault and trespassing charges.
According to the release, Becking was hosting a gathering at 16002 438th Ave. Anderson showed up and was twice forced to leave. When he arrived a third time he assaulted a person.
People broke up the assault, and Anderson reportedly made a firearm gesture toward them while running into nearby woods. Becking later found Anderson near a tree line on his property. Anderson said he may be possibly armed and reached into his waist belt. Becking then fired at Anderson, striking him in the thigh.
Becking's bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety. He bonded out of Codington County Detention.
Anderson was granted a personal recognizance bond with the condition of no contact with the assault victims. His gunshot wound required medical care, and he's been released from an area hospital.
Wallace is about 25 miles northwest of Watertown.
