FARGO — A West Fargo father accused of injuring his 3-month-old son has been sentenced to five months behind bars and two years of supervised probation.
Aaron Kempfer pleaded guilty in Cass County District Court to a felony count of child abuse in May.
On Monday, Aug. 27, a judge sentenced Kempfer, giving him credit for having already spent 118 days in jail. He must also pay about $690 in restitution.
In November 2017, West Fargo police received a report that a 3-month-old had been admitted to the hospital with two bruised eyes, a fractured arm and fractured ribs, according to court documents.
The father, later identified as Kempfer, initially told police he didn't know how the injuries happened but later said he slapped the child twice in an attempt to calm his crying, court documents said.
Kempfer told police he squeezed the child's arms and rib cage when trying to change a diaper, court documents said.
