One of two Devils Lake residents accused of sexually assaulting mentally impaired teen enters plea
DEVILS LAKE—One of two Devils Lake residents accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a mentally impaired teen pleaded not guilty Thursday.
Patrick Alan Leiphon, 52, entered the plea in Ramsey County District Court for five Class A felony charges of gross sexual imposition. Sherene A. Kraft, 50, who also faces the same charges, is scheduled to enter a plea Nov. 5.
The two were arrested at the end of June and each charged with five felony counts. Court documents allege Kraft drove a mentally impaired 15-year-old girl to several locations so Leiphon could sexually assault her. It's unclear how they know each other or the girl.
The five alleged assaults took place near Garske, Penn and Devils Lake, affidavits for their arrest said.
Leiphon is still incarcerated and his bond is set at $10,000.
If convicted, Leiphon and Kraft could spend up to 20 years in jail on each count.
Leiphon will appear in court again Oct. 10.
Kraft appeared in court Thursday, but her arraignment was postponed. She is out on a $5,000 bond.
