North Dakota man faces negligent homicide charges following crash

GRAND FORKS - A Davenport man is facing a negligent homicide charge after a crash left one person dead.

Nathan Daniel Stachler was westbound on 88th Street Northeast and failed to fully yield at the intersection of County Road 39, near Osnabrock, about 100 miles northwest of Grand Forks, on May 17, court documents said. His car T-boned a southbound car in the intersection and both vehicles ended up in the ditch, an affidavit said.

The woman driving the car was extracted and flown by air ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, court records said. She was using a portable breathing machine at the time of the accident, police said.

The woman died June 3 from crash-related injuries, court documents said.

Stachler told officers he had not been on the phone or texting before the crash. He’s scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8. Stachler could spend up to five years in prison if convicted.
