Man faces charges following explosion in Minot

MINOT, N.D. - A 36-year-old man faces charges of endangering by fire or explosion and possession of a bomb following an explosion observed by a Ward County deputy April 7.

Patrick Michael Wagner was arrested Thursday, April 11, after investigators were able to use in-car video from the deputy’s patrol vehicle and evidence collected at the scene to identify him as a suspect, the Ward County Sheriff’s Office said.

About 5:25 p.m. on April 7, the deputy observed what appeared to be a fire in a ditch northeast of Minot. While the deputy was pulling up the scene to extinguish the flames an explosion occurred, the sheriff’s office said.

A pickup was observed stopped next to the area and drove away as the deputy approached the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Wagner was taken into custody and booked into the Ward County Jail. No injuries were reported.
