MINOT, N.D. — A 54-year-old missing Minot man's car has been found and there were two reports of possibly seeing him walking on railroad tracks in the area on Tuesday, July 7, police said.
Police said they found Ron Petersen's car on a gravel road near Sawyer, which is about 15 miles southwest of Minot, but an intensive, multi-jurisdictional search of the area on Tuesday turned up nothing.
Police also said there have been two different witnesses in two separate locations who indicated they saw a man walking on the Canadian Pacific rail tracks that matched Petersen's description..
The two sightings were the day after he went missing on July 5.
The first was about 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. about 2 miles west of Velva, about 20 miles southwest of Minot, and the other time was about 7 p.m. that day near Logan, about 9 miles southwest of Minot.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a man or has video footage in those areas to call police.
Petersen was reported missing from his home by family and friends on July 4, saying he was not acting normal prior to his disappearance and concerned he could be suffering from mental illness.
He is a white male, about 6 feet tall, weighing about 190 ponds, with long blond hair and blue eyes.
