Dale leads Blue Jay girls over Midgets

JAMESTOWN -- Morgan Dale kept Dickinson High on its toes long enough to allow Jamestown to claim a West Region girls basketball victory Saturday night.

JAMESTOWN -- Morgan Dale kept Dickinson High on its toes long enough to allow Jamestown to claim a West Region girls basketball victory Saturday night.

Dale scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead the fourth-ranked Blue Jays to a 56-45 victory over the Midgets.

"We had trouble defending Dale," Midgets coach Greg Jung said. "She's a great player, very active and difficult to keep a handle on."

Dale's effort underscored Dickinson junior Brigette Uttech's breakout game.

Uttech scored 17 points and had nine rebounds to pace the Midgets, who fell to 8-9 overall and 6-8 in the West.

"It was a breakout game for Brigette," Jung said. "It happened at a good time against a good team"

Madeline Hornung, Jenny Schuchard and Amber Ramlo each scored 10 points for the Blue Jays, who improved to 13-3 and 10-3 in the West.

Jamestown was hot from the free-throw line, hitting 16 of 23 shots, and held a 31-21 halftime lead.

"We put them to the line too many times," Jung said.

Outside of Uttech and senior Lynn Messer, who had nine points, the Midgets struggled offensively.

"Our inability to make shots, was our downfall. We hope to hit our stride offensively come tournament time."
