Deputy secretary of Health and Human Services named

DEVILS LAKE - Mary Wakefield, a Devils Lake native, has been named the acting deputy secretary of U.S. Health and Human Services, making her the second in command of the agency.
Wakefield was formerly the administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration - an office within HHS - since 2009. In this position, Wakefield expanded access to health care and built out the country’s health care workforce, according to a release issued from the office of U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.
HHS oversees health care, health research, disease control, children and families, and other divisions.
