Further fundraising events for the Dickinson High School Band are this week and next week. A supper with a talent show is set for Friday, Feb. 22, and a pops band concert and silent auction are on Monday, Feb. 25.

"We are in the process of raising about $30,000 for the band's trip," DHS Band Director Keith Traquair said. "We have raised more than half and will be leaving in May."

Approximately 80 people are going to Chicago.

The supper is from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday in the commons area of DHS and is being catered by JD's BBQ. The talent show begins in the auditorium at 7 p.m. The acts include dancing, singing, instrumental and drama.

The silent auction and concert begin with the auction from 6-7:30 p.m. Items include gift certificates to restaurants, CDs, music equipment, car washes and more. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

"It is the most popular concert simply because of the style of music performed, which includes all pop or movie music," Traquair said.

Music from "Star Wars," "Grease" and "Lord of the Rings" are just some of the pieces to be heard during the performance.

"One of the most interesting pieces is the 'Day at the Zoo' played by the wind band," he added.
