FARGO -- The Dickinson High boys tennis team didn't have a very good showing in the opening round of doubles and singles at the North Dakota state tennis tournament Friday.

Dickinson had two doubles teams and a singles player in competition, but are now riding strictly the coat tails of senior Stephen Blanchard and junior Taylor Bruhschwein, who won both of their matches to get into the semifinals for the second consecutive year. They were state runners-up last year. The pair topped Eric Salzwedel and Luke Brodeur of Fargo South to get past the first round and earned their trip to the semis with a win over Eric Moe and Parker Lawley, also of Fargo South. Both matches were won in straight sets.

Jess Fredit and Colin Peterson lost their first two matches of the tournament are done. After falling victim to Matt Bergstrom and Clark Swanson of Fargo Noth in the opening round, the team was eliminated by a team from Fargo Shanley.

The only singles player Dickinson had in the tournament was Luke Van Ells, who lost to Michael Kraft of Grand Forks Red River in the opener and was eliminated in the consolation round.

Dickinson took sixth as a team, losing to Williston 4-1. The Midgets' only victory came at No. 1 singles where Bruhschwein beat Michael DeLorme 6-0 in straight sets.
