A Dickinson man has recently purchased a sports officials apparel company and is in the process of moving the company from Missouri to Dickinson.

Troy Huber purchased Between The Lines Official's Gear on Jan. 5.

Between The Lines Official's Gear was founded in 2000 and has supplied officials apparel for over 15 years. Huber, a sports official himself, said he has previously bought items from the company and found himself in the right place at the right time to make the purchase.

He said the fact that the business has been around for awhile was something that made him more interested in the company.

"That was one of the things that attracted me," Huber said. "It wasn't a brand new business with a brand new name. It was something that was established and they've been in business for many years prior. It's an established business, not just a start-up company."

He said so far he has gotten a positive response from people and officials from around the area.

Huber is currently running the business out of his garage in Dickinson, but hopes to one day be able to open up a walk-in shop for people to be able to buy items there and so the company can have additional product space. The company ships throughout the United States.

"It's pretty much internet based most of our stuff is apparel-wise," he said. "There aren't many places around the United States that have just a walk-in store. ... Anybody in the United States can order, not just locally, but every place else."

While he doesn't plan on making any major changes at this point, Huber said he would like to expand the business to other sports one day.

"We're looking at adding hockey I think and some things like that," he said. "But he's (the previous owner) got a good customer following and I know his reputation is good. It was one of those things where the timing was right and we took advantage of it."
