Because of the amount of contracting work in western North Dakota, the firm designated to oversee the West River Community Center expansion is having trouble finding bids for portions of the project.
That was the message relayed from Mortenson Construction at a special Dickinson Park Board meeting Tuesday. During the meeting, the builder asked for -- and received -- a reprieve for several contracting bids for the WRCC addition that went unanswered.
Among a total of 18 bids offered through Mortenson for the expansion, bids for mechanical work, windows and roofing went unanswered. The board voted unanimously to re-bid the work. Mortenson senior project manager Pat Barnett said the bids will be advertised a second time with new deadline being June 19.
Both Barnett and Dickinson Parks and Rec Director James Kramer downplayed the significance of the lack of bids with Kramer noting that a similar instance occurred before the building of the established WRCC complex. The expansion -- which is slated to include a new ice rink and an outdoor pool, among other amenities -- is still on track to be completed by June of 2014. The final price tag for the project is projected to be just more than $22.3 million.
