A team of local, state and federal agents worked to get 100 percent compliance for sex offenders in Stark County beginning Monday.
The program, named “Operation Guardian” wrapped Wednesday, according to a release from Dickinson Police Sgt. Kylan Klauzer. With the assistance of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and U. S. Marshals Service the Dickinson Police Department worked to verify full registration compliance of all sex offender registrants located in Stark County and Dickinson.
The North Dakota Sex Offender registration requirements were used to scrutinize the registered sex offenders in the department's jurisdiction. There are 75 registered sex offenders who were contacted over the course of this operation, 14 arrests were made associated with failure to comply to registration requirements, nine individuals were deemed to be technically non-compliant, but task force members unable to make face-to-face contact with them during the time frame allotted for the operation.
The team used this operation to educate the community on the importance of sex offender registration. All of the violations which resulted in arrests were associated with registration non-compliance technicalities, not actual acts.
