WAHPETON (AP) -- A Dilworth woman has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in a 2008 crash in Richland County that killed a man.
Prosecutor Ron McBeth told the Fargo Forum that the deal 39-year-old Melanie Flegel agreed to calls for a one-year sentence, although the judge could overrule that and give her up to five years.
Flegel's plea was entered Wednesday in Richland County District Court. She had faced a charge of manslaughter in the November 2008 crash that killed 42-year-old Ricky Santiago of Fargo.
Authorities have said Flegel was driving the van that went into a ditch and rolled while en route from the casino near Hankinson to Fargo. Santiago was a passenger.
A sentencing date for Flegel has not been set.
