The Southwestern District Health Unit identified social availability, enforcement, retail availability and community norms as priorities after a community-level needs assessment of underage drinking and adult binge drinking in the eight southwestern North Dakota counties.
The Health Unit analyzed data on alcohol-related crashes, alcohol-related arrest rates, alcohol consumption and factors that contribute to these issues. The Unit will now develop a plan to address the issue, aided by a $432,000 grant from a program of the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
