Doctor cleared in Katrina deaths wants repayment

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A doctor accused but never formally charged with giving four patients lethal doses of drugs in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is asking the state to pay her legal fees.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A doctor accused but never formally charged with giving four patients lethal doses of drugs in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is asking the state to pay her legal fees.

An attorney for Dr. Anna Pou (Po) says because she was a state employee she is entitled by law to be reimbursed for her legal fees. Attorney Rick Simmons said Tuesday the LSU Healthcare Network is also asking to have its legal fees repaid.

Some 2,000 people were trapped at the hospital where Pou worked when the 2005 hurricane hit New Orleans and had to be evacuated.

A criminal investigation after the storm led to the arrest of Pou and two nurses. None of the women were indicted.

It was not immediately clear how much was spent on legal help.
