HORACE, N.D. – Cass County Sheriff’s deputies are trying to find the person who stabbed a dog multiple times and left it to die Sunday morning.

Cass County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dean Haaland said a person who lives in the area southwest of Horace discovered the dog, who’s being called Wilford, suffering from three to four stab wounds.

Cass County authorities took the dog to the Red River Animal Emergency Clinic, where veterinarians treated it for stab wounds from an object 6 to 8 inches long.

Haaland said investigators don’t know whether the attack on the dog was a random act or not, but said they have not received any other reports of attacks on dogs.

He declined to comment on whether or not they have a person of interest in the case or not.
