Dorothy passed away April 3, 2009 on her 79th Birthday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dickinson, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy Mae (Dachtler) Ennis was born April 3, 1930 in Grant County to Elizabeth (Kapsch) and Oscar Dachtler. She grew up in the Elgin area, where she also attended school. She worked as a waitress at the Holiday House in Mott, it was there she met and fell in love with Donald Ennis, who was a cable-splicer with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Jamestown. They were married on Dec. 15, 1951 in Jamestown. They then moved to Dickinson, where Dorothy worked at S & L. They raised six children. Dorothy was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and attended the services at St. Benedict's Health Center when Donald was a resident. Dorothy enjoyed working in her flower beds and watching the flowers grow. As a family, she enjoyed camping and playing canasta after supper and when the dishes were done. She had a bottomless-cookie-jar filled with her famous chocolate chip cookies. She loved to work in the woodworking shop beside Don, cutting out wooden shapes to paint or have one of her daughters paint. The thrill for her was the use of the electric tools. She enjoyed the friendship and gab sessions with her best friend Shirley, visits from her brothers, sisters-in-law, kids, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She will be missed but will live in our hearts forever.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jerry (Brenda) Ennis, Rockspring, Wyo. and Bryan (Mary) Ennis, Dickinson; daughters, Susan Walz, Dickinson, Sandra Kuntz, Richardton, and Patti Ennis (Mike Jung), Mandan; grandchildren, Shalin Ennis, Mesa, Ariz., Matthew Ennis, Rochester, Minn., Sarah Ennis (Tyler Rice), Dunn Center, Jesse Kuntz, Dickinson, Samantha Walz, Dickinson, Scott Ennis, Fargo, Laura Ennis, Dickinson; great-granddaughters, Savanna Hulm, Bismarck, Sophia Rose Rice, Dunn Center; brothers, George (Ruth) Dachtler, Missoula, Mont., Marvin (Delora) Dachtler, Glen Ullin, Johnny (Mary) Dachtler, Oxford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Valoria Okland, Fargo; brother-in-law, Ervin (Bev) Ennis, Jamestown; numerous nieces and nephews.
