The federal Department of Transportation has awarded more than $120,000 to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation to help reduce traffic accidents in tribal communities, according to a press release.
The DOT gave the Standing Rock reservation $34,500, and the MHA Nation, aka the Three Affiliated Tribes, $88,624. The grants are part of the Federal Highway Administration’s Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund.
“Improving infrastructure on tribal lands will help to improve quality of life and ensure the continued safety and well-being of Native Americans in North Dakota,” Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., said in the release.
