JAMESTOWN -- For five innings, the Dickinson State softball team put its bats on the ball. Jamestown College just kept coming up with nice defensive plays.

"I felt good that if we kept putting the ball in play, our inning would come," DSU coach Guy Fridley said.

That inning turned out to be the sixth. Trailing 2-0, the Blue Hawks scored four runs in the inning and held on in the top of the seventh to close out the Jimmies 4-2 in the second round of the Dakota Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The top-seeded Blue Hawks (31-6) now face Black Hills State (14-16) at 11:30 a.m. today. If DSU wins, it will play in the championship game against a yet-to-be determined opponent at 4:30 p.m.

Although she gave up two runs, Blue Hawks freshman pitcher Sara Jane Webster allowed Jamestown just four hits while she struck out 13 batters.

"She didn't have her best stuff as far as her rise ball wasn't jumping," Fridley said. "... I'm proud of the way she battled."

While Webster worked, the Blue Hawks finally found ways to score in the sixth.

Jody Lantz led off the inning with a single, Danielle Abrahamson walked and Webster singled to load the bases for Kelly Jahn.

Jahn tied the game 2-2 with a single.

A sacrifice bunt by Jessica Huseby drove in Webster and put DSU in the lead. Amanda Mickey's sacrifice fly two batters later sent home Jahn.

"We strung some hits together," Fridley said.
