SANDWICH, Ill. (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration says two people have died in a single-engine plane crash in north-central Illinois.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says both people on board the plane were killed when it went down in a field near Sandwich on Saturday afternoon. The administration says the small aircraft was built in 1946.

The administration says it is investigating the crash with the National Transportation Safety Board.

Sandwich is about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.
