Fire evacuates southern North Dakota medical center
ASHLEY, N.D. - A Tuesday morning fire has closed a portion of the Ashley Medical Center in North Dakota.
According to a Feb. 12 post on the McIntosh County Sheriff's Department Facebook Page, everybody at the hospital was safe.
"Ashley Medical Center will be on diversion till further notice. No (emergency room) patients will be brought to Ashley. They will be diverted to Wishek," the post read.
According to KQDJ radio in Valley City, the damage was not extensive, but an evacuation was needed because of smoke damage.
"Crews helped evacuate residents to an unconnected parking garage before moving them to other facilities in the region," according to KQDJ. "Volunteers drove buses and ambulances to transport people to safety. Officials with the hospital expect to have the facility reopen in a few days."
A post on the medical center and clinic's Facebook page also mentioned the fire, noting that emergency care is being diverted to the hospital in Wishek.
Ashley is about 90 miles south of Jamestown.
