Flood warning for Dickinson

BISMARCK, (AP) -- Flood warnings were issued Wednesday for residents of Dickinson and Wahpeton, at opposite ends of the state, due to rising rivers and ice jams.

In Dickinson, Stark County emergency manager Gary Kostelecky said the ice jams on the Heart River led to high water from an area near South Heart to Dickinson. He said a golf course was flooded and the high water was threatening a few homes near Gladstone.

In eastern North Dakota, the weather service predicted the Red River would rise above its 10-foot flood stage in Wahpeton on Wednesday night. Forecasters said the Red is expected to be at around 15 feet in Wahpeton by next week.

Forecasters are watching a storm system to the west that could bring more moisture by early next week.

See Thursday's Dickinson Press for more on area flooding and road closures.
